INFORMED CONSENT FORM
Consent for Participation in Research Project
You are hereby invited to be a participant in a research study on short-term and long-term mating preferences. You may only take part in this study if you are at least 18 years old.
Background Information and Purpose of this Study: The purpose of this study is to investigate people’s short-term and long-term mating preferences.
Procedures: If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete a few tasks in which you will design your ideal mate under certain constraints. You will also be asked to answer some questions of a personal nature, including questions about your sexual orientation and personality. Typically, this kind of study lasts about 15 minutes.
Risks and Benefits: There are no significant risks or costs involved in this study. There are no direct benefits to participating, though you may gain some insight into your mating preferences.
Compensation: There will be no monetary compensation for participating in this study. Please note that you cannot participate in this study if you are a student in one of Dr. Al-Shawaf’s classes.
Confidentiality: The records of this study will be kept strictly confidential. It will be impossible to link your answers to your person, and all data will be stored on password-protected servers behind locked doors accessible only to the researchers associated with this study.
Voluntary Nature of the Study: This study is completely voluntary. Declining to participate will have no negative consequences. If you choose to take part in this study, you are free to quit at any time with no penalty whatsoever.
